The Russian Blue, a natural breed is thought to have originated in northern Russia. It is also thought to have come from the port city of Archangelsk. An old name for the cat is the Archangel Cat. A Russian Blue was exhibited in the very first organized cat show in England in 1871. Russian Blues are noted for their short, plush, silvery blue coat, vivid green eyes, and semi-foreign body type with long legs and body. This is a playful and graceful breed, and a quiet/shy temperament. Sometimes Russian Blues are born with ghost stripes as kittens, but these generally fade with age and they grow the familiar, solid silvery blue by adulthood. The American and European types have come to differ somewhat. Scandinavian-type Russian Blues tend to be larger and more heavily built than American Russian Blues. Where to find one:
